Sunjay Kapur, businessman and Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, died on June 12, 2025, of a cardiac arrest while playing polo in London. But what has piqued everyone's interest are the recent changes within the family.
His wife, actress Priya Sachdev, has altered her identity and Instagram bio since joining his company's board. He was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a worldwide auto component manufacturer headquartered in Gurugram. According to recent rumours, Priya's daughter from her first marriage, Safira Chatwal, has also changed her name.
After taking over her post on the board of Comstar, Priya Sachdev Kapur changed her Instagram identity to 'Priya Sunjay Kapur', to reflect her new position. Now, rumour abounds that her daughter, Safira, from her previous marriage to American hotelier and actor Vikram Chatwal, has followed in her mother's footsteps as well. This comes amid an ongoing Rs 30,000-crore succession struggle between Priya Sachdev and her mother-in-law, Rani Kapur.
A Reddit thread went viral on the subject, stating, "The drama is playing out. Priya Sachdev's kid was known as Safira Chatwal on Instagram until last month. She abruptly lost her surname, 'chatwal'. Priya switched from Priya Sachdev Kapur to Priya Sunjay Kapur. This house wrecker is incredibly crafty. Even before Karisma's divorce, she had moved into Sunjay's home with her daughter. I believe Karisma's children's inheritance is at stake. This woman already has the CEO's support, as well as certain board members."
According to India.com, the Internet has generated a number of speculations as the family dispute continues. However, Safira's name change has yet to be officially confirmed. Her Instagram bio no longer includes the surname Chatwal.
"Despite being under immense mental and emotional distress, I was coerced into signing such documents behind locked doors and, though I've repeatedly requested, the contents of such documents have never been revealed to me," Ms Kapur mentioned in her letter.
"Please also take note, I have been totally denied access to my accounts and have been left to the mercy of a select few for survival. All this, in less than a month of my only son passing away," Rani Kapur further quipped.
Following Priya Sachdev, her daughter, Safira, has reportedly changed her name. While the family has not issued an official statement, Redditors noticed that Safira had omitted "Chatwal" from her surname. Safira Chatwal is Priya Sachdev's daughter from her first marriage to Vikram Chatwal.
