Bringing the nation together

Telugu star Ram Charan said the success of ‘Peddi' and the ‘Dhurandhar' franchise reflects audience's support for films that promote national unity. Speaking at a summit in New Delhi on June 23, the actor said such stories resonate because they place "India first". "‘Dhurandhar' had everything falling in place in the right way, in the right tempo," he said. "National integrity is very important in our forthcoming films. It has brought the country together." Ram added that box-office collections are ultimately driven by audience acceptance, saying, "If people of India are owning it and want this to happen, why not? It's doing good for our nation."

Hired for horror

Emraan Hashmi

Emraan Hashmi is heading back to the horror genre with Rooh, a musical-horror film slated for release in 2027. Talking about the film, he said, "Rooh is a film that immediately connected with me because it brings together new-age horror, emotional and music in a very powerful way." He added that the "intense, emotional and cinematic" world of the film was what excited him the most.

The star of reinvention

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar has reflected on his 35-year journey in Hindi cinema, saying he entered the industry to earn money but soon realised he needed to reinvent himself. Speaking to PTI, the actor said, "After that decade, when I saw my films, I felt like slapping myself. I had only done action roles, and nobody thought I was capable of anything else. I realised that I needed to transform myself as I wanted to do different characters. Then I did Hera Pheri (2000), Dhadkan (2000), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), and Pad Man (2018)."

Money buys you happiness

Tamannaah Bhatia

Tamannaah Bhatia has opened up about her relationship with money, revealing that wealth is a by-product of purpose rather than her end goal. "Nobody is taking any of this and going anywhere," the actor said, adding that she enjoys "the process of creation of wealth, value, and identity." Questioning the pursuit of endless riches, Tamannaah remarked, "What does anyone do with any amount of money?" She said creating impact and scaling a vision bring her the greatest satisfaction, while wealth "naturally" follows.

‘Janta janardan hai'

(L-R) Diljit Dosanjh and Naseeruddin Shah in ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga'

Imtiaz Ali is overwhelmed by the way audience has embraced Main Vaapas Aaunga, helping the Partition drama to script a major theatrical turnaround in the second week of its release. The film started off slow but is now one of the best performing Hindi films this month. "Ultimately, janata janardan hai. We always try to predict people, put them into categories and socio-economic classes and we try to make strategies to predict how people are going to react to a brand or a film, but I think people largely understand cinema. We should actually learn from them how to make a film and how to market films," the filmmaker told PTI.

Labour of love

Imtiaz Ali

The movie, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina has grossed around Rs 44 crore globally, and is expected to enter the Rs 50 crore club soon
