Rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh has sought more time to appear before Maharashtra Cyber after failing to turn up for questioning in connection with a complaint over remarks he allegedly made during a Delhi concert. The rapper was directed to appear before the investigating officer and record his statement, but his side has now requested more time.
The latest notice was reportedly issued as a final reminder after Honey Singh had earlier been asked to appear before the agency. The case stems from an FIR registered at Mumbai's Nodal Cyber Police Station and a complaint concerning his remarks at a concert earlier this year.
According to Maharashtra Cyber, Honey Singh was required to appear personally before the investigating officer on October 5. Honey Singh did not appear as scheduled and has instead sought more time to record his statement. The investigation relates to a complaint filed over allegedly indecent remarks he made during a concert in Delhi.
The controversy dates back to January, when a video from Honey Singh's appearance at Nanku and Karun's Delhi concert circulated online. In the clip, he made a sexually suggestive comment about having sex in a car during Delhi's cold weather and urged the audience to use condoms. The remarks drew criticism online.
Honey Singh subsequently addressed the backlash in an apology video. He explained that he had recently spoken with gynaecologists and sexologists about sexually transmitted infections and wanted to communicate a safe-sex message to a Gen Z audience. "I offer my heartfelt apologies to everyone who felt hurt or disrespected," he said, adding that he would be more careful with his language and actions in the future.
For now, Honey Singh has asked for additional time rather than appearing before the investigating officer. The agency is yet to indicate when his statement will next be recorded or what further action will follow.
The development comes amid a busy year for the rapper, who has continued performing live and remains active on the music circuit. However, his January concert remarks have now resulted in a formal inquiry by Maharashtra Cyber.
