After being in the making for four years, 'Jagga Jasoos', starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, misses UAE deadline; question mark on India release this Friday

Recently, whispers at Mumbai's Mehboob Studio indicated that filmmaker Anurag Basu's absence from the promotional activities of Jagga Jasoos was not a coincidence. He has been caught up with last-minute patchwork, shooting with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's body doubles [to avoid news about the eleventh hour work from spreading] at Film City. However, it didn't take time for word to spread. Even two days before its official release, the final print of the film isn't ready. As a result, Jagga Jasoos will not hit theatres in the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE) today, which was its official release date.

When mid-day contacted a multiplex in Dubai, an official confirmed, "The first show for Jagga Jasoos is on Friday (July 14) morning. The Thursday shows were called off. We were intimated about it on Wednesday."

A distributor, on condition of anonymity, said, "It seems the film's background score wasn't delivered by composer Pritam till Tuesday. Also, its edit is still to be completed, as the producers are debating over the length of the film. Ranbir (co-producer) is clear that it shouldn't be more than two hours and 15 minutes.

In such a scenario, the distributors are worried that the film might not even hit screens in India on Friday."

However, sources close to Basu assure that the filmmaker would deliver the project in time. Rubbishing the negative buzz in the trade circuit, an insider says, "The film is releasing tomorrow. The makers decided to push the worldwide release because of some unforeseen circumstances. Now, it will release in India and abroad on Friday. It may be loss of a day's earnings, but Basu's focus is entirely on delivering the best."
