After making a mark in Bengali cinema, actor Jisshu Sengupta has steadily built a strong presence in Hindi films and OTT.

Most recently seen in the crime thriller series Brown alongside Karisma Kapoor, the actor has shared screen space with several of Bollywood's biggest leading ladies, including Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan and Kajol. Looking back on those collaborations, Jisshu says he considers himself fortunate to have worked with some of the industry's most celebrated actresses.

Jisshu Sengupta on Bollywood stars

Speaking about sharing screen space with female superstars, Jisshu said he never viewed them differently because of their stature. Instead, he credits Bengali filmmakers for opening doors for him in Hindi cinema.

"I have never looked at it that way. I have grown up watching their films, not of Deepika of course," he joked. "But I first worked with Tabu in 2001 when she was at the top of her career. Then working with Rani Mukerji and so on, I would say I was lucky. I want to thank all the Bengali directors who started working here and knew about my work back in Bengal and gave me these opportunities."

The actor added that while there is always an initial fanboy moment, it quickly fades once work begins on set.

"For me, working with these superstar ladies, the first thing that happens is a fanboy moment, but then they become colleagues and it's a process that we all follow. The only difference I would say is the money part of it. Apart from that, everything is the same. I am thankful to all those ladies that they never made me feel like they are stars. They made the experience easy and helped me understand my co-actors better, and that has helped me as an artiste."

Jisshu Sengupta's acting philosophy

Jisshu was also seen this year in Akshay Kumar's horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla. Despite earning appreciation for his performances over the years, the actor says he does not dwell on praise or success.

"The day I start thinking about it, I will be finished," he said. "For the last 30 years, I have been working because I am a workaholic. I have never thought about it during this while and I never want to think of it. I take it one day at a time."

Calling the script his biggest priority, Jisshu concluded, "For me, the script is the bible, and what my character is and what my director wants is everything. I don't think beyond that."
