Kriti Sanon is ready to step out of her comfort zone. After winning praise for balancing commercial entertainers with performance-driven films, the National Award-winning actor has revealed that she now wants to take on darker, psychologically complex characters, admitting that playing a "psycho chick" is high on her acting wishlist.

Kriti Sanon does not want to play safe roles

Speaking to Humans of Bombay, Kriti said she no longer wants to stick to safe choices and is eager to explore roles that push her creatively. The actor shared that watching the psychological drama Obsession made her rethink the kind of stories she wants to be associated with.

"When I watched Obsession, I was like, 'Oh my God, we need to stop going safe. We need to do something out of the box.' It really excited me," she said.

Kriti also revealed that she has been inspired by actors like Zendaya, whose willingness to take on emotionally demanding and unconventional characters has left a lasting impression on her.

The actress believes that portraying someone who is completely different from her real-life personality is one of the most exciting aspects of being an actor.

"I want to play a mad character. I want to play a psycho chick. I don't want to be safe. As an actor, it's so exciting to live a life that's completely different from your own and explore a person you're not. I'd absolutely love to play someone completely psychotic," Kriti shared.

From Mimi to Cocktail 2

Over the years, Kriti has steadily expanded her filmography, moving beyond romantic comedies to experiment with emotionally layered and genre-defying roles. While films like Mimi earned her widespread acclaim and a National Award, projects such as Bhediya, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Do Patti have showcased her versatility across comedy, horror, romance and thriller genres.

The actress said she is particularly fascinated by stories centred around psychologically layered characters, as they allow actors to experience lives and emotions far removed from their own while offering audiences a fresh perspective. Her latest comments suggest that she is now looking to take bigger creative risks, with psychologically intense and unconventional roles firmly on her radar.

On the work front, Kriti recently starred in Cocktail 2, where she played the role of Ally. If her latest revelation is anything to go by, Cocktail 2 may just be another stepping stone before Kriti dives into the kind of bold, unpredictable characters she has long wanted to portray.
