This week at the box office saw four major releases, with Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 emerging as an audience favourite. On X, a user reviewing Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli felt the film's release alongside the action sequel was not ideal. Responding to the post, Yami acknowledged the challenges of securing a solo release window and expressed gratitude to audiences.
The discussion began on Monday when an X user shared their opinion about the film's release date, writing, "Movie badhiya hai. Timing with Jailer 2 was not optimum."
Responding to the comment, Yami wrote, "Nowadays to get a solo or just 2 films release window is difficult. It's very difficult to make a successful film today, hence I appreciate everyone's effort to have done their best :) And couldn't be more grateful to audience for giving us a chance. Having said that, just like millions of people, I am also a huge Rajni sir fan. It was indeed an honour for me to have my small film release along with sir, which I am myself looking forward to watch it soon."
Directed by Balaji Mohan, Nayyi Navelli also features Addinath M. Kothare, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisht, Sushmita Mukherjee and Aaditya Kulshreshth in key roles. The story revolves around a modern corporate woman who marries into a traditional Meerut family. However, her eccentric brother-in-law suspects that she is a supernatural witch.
Nayyi Navelli has hit the screens and has been receiving mixed to negative reviews. Amid this, the film struggled at the box office on day one, collecting just over a modest Rs 3.25 crore.
At the box office, the film faces stiff competition from Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story. Additionally, throughout the country, it faces competition from big South Indian releases, including Rajinikanth's Tamil thriller Jailer 2 and Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Telugu period drama Ranabaali.
Work-wise, Yami Gautam is set to headline Kahaani 3, with filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh returning to direct the next chapter of the hit thriller franchise. Unlike the Vidya Balan-led films, the third instalment will reportedly introduce a fresh story and a new protagonist while retaining the suspense and mystery.
Apart from this, it's been an exciting year for Yami Gautam, as she won praise for her cameo in Dhurandhar 2 and her performance in Haq. She also won a National Film Award for her performance in Article 370.
