Prince William seems to be interested in Bollywood family drama, with Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and it could soon make it to the royal's watchlist. During a conversation in London, the Prince of Wales praised the filmmaker, calling him an 'icon'. He also agreed to watch Karan's 2001 film after a journalist suggested it to him.
The conversation took place during a discussion about Karan Johar's association with the Earthshot Prize, an environmental initiative launched by Prince William in partnership with The Royal Foundation. Karan has been helping the global initiative connect with audiences in India. Prince Williams acknowledged the filmmaker's contribution while speaking to BBC Asian Network.
When asked if he had watched any of Karan Johar's films, the prince admitted that he was yet to watch the filmmaker's work. However, he was happy to take a recommendation when suggested, hinting that one of Bollywood's most popular family dramas could soon make its way onto his watchlist.
While speaking about Karan's involvement with the initiative, William said, "Really cool. I mean, he's again an icon, and he's been so helpful in kind of being able to help the Earthshot Prize land, well, in India. We want to make it a truly Indian Earthshot Prize. It's the biggest one we've done."
He further described Karan as "modest" while talking about the filmmaker's contribution to the global environmental initiative.
The journalist further suggested the royal to watch Karan's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, popularly known as K3G. For the unversed, released in 2001, the film continues to be one of Karan's best-known directorial films. It stars an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor.
The journalist suggested that William bring up the recommendation the next time he met Karan, saying, "Yeah, we all say K3G anyway. If you meet Karan again, âTell him, I'm going to watch your film K3G, he'll love you.'"
Prince William seemingly liked the suggested idea and replied, "Okay, got it, I'll mention that too when I see him."
