Actor Richa Chadha has called out Mumbai's worsening air quality, concerns over drinking water and deteriorating roads, questioning the authorities over the city's civic infrastructure. On October 24, the actor urged residents to demand accountability from the civic body and government over issues affecting their daily lives.
Raising concerns about the quality of drinking water and the pollution levels in the city, Richa questioned why Mumbaikars should continue paying high taxes while struggling with basic civic amenities. Her remarks also highlighted concerns about environmental protection and the city's road conditions.
Taking to X, the actor wrote, "You got literal poop in drinking water, and poison in the air. Poison kills life; what's worse than death?" Richa's post comes amid growing concerns over Mumbai's air pollution, with poor air quality posing potential health risks, particularly for people who spend long hours commuting or working outdoors.
The actor also questioned the government's response to the city's worsening air quality, asking, "There's like 3 CMs, what is the plan of action for air?"
Through her post, Richa drew attention to the need for concrete measures to address pollution instead of leaving residents to deal with its consequences. She also questioned the state of civic infrastructure and the quality of essential services in Mumbai. Richa's remarks put the spotlight on the authorities' responsibility to address these concerns and ensure that residents have access to safe drinking water and cleaner air.
Beyond air and water pollution, the actor also flagged Mumbai's deteriorating roads and questioned the proposed cutting of 7,500 trees. She expressed concern over environmental protection becoming a responsibility shouldered by activists and young people, urging citizens to participate in civic discussions and demand answers from the authorities.
The actor's post brought together several civic concerns, from environmental conservation to the quality of infrastructure that residents depend on daily. By asking Mumbaikars to raise their voices, Richa called for greater public participation in holding the authorities accountable.
Known for speaking out on social and public issues, Richa has once again used her social media platform to draw attention to concerns beyond the entertainment industry. Her latest post centres on the need for action on pollution, road conditions and environmental protection in Mumbai. On the work front, Richa had her YouTube debut with a short web series called Musafiri, in which she's on a journey to explore Mumbai.
