Singer Anu Malik's daughter Ada Malik, a fashion designer, took the stage at the Bombay Music Project on Saturday, October 24. As the festival celebrates live Bollywood music, Ada danced to Ding Dong Ding Dole from the 2003 film Kuchh To Hai. Videos of her performance have since gone viral on social media.
However, Ada's performance has also drawn attention amid the controversy surrounding Shilpa Rao's interrupted act at the event. Shilpa's microphone was switched off while she was performing, and her speech thanking the audience was cut short as the Kulte Khan project took over the stage.
Following the incident, some attendees speculated that delays during earlier performances may have led to Shilpa's abrupt exit. An attendee, who goes by the Instagram handle @aashwini_shetye, claimed that the event manager had approached Anu Malik near the stage to inform him that the time was running out, but he allegedly continued performing, causing further delay in the schedule.
The attendee also criticsed the inclusion of certain acts, writing that some performances were "absolutely unnecessary." She specifically referred to Anu Malik's performance and his daughter's dance act, further claiming that the latter recieved lukewarm response from the crowd.
Several social media users expressed their sentiments in the comments section. One user wrote, "Agreed. There was no need for such fillers...if they were not on schedule, they should have skipped such fillers." Another person commented, "YES!!! This is what I have been saying." A separate comment alleged that Ada was not enjoying herself while performing.
However, there is no official confirmation of whether Ada Malik's act or the earlier performances directly interrupted Shilpa Rao's set, causing it to be cut short.
