Saif Ali Khan says a senior actor advised him to keep marriage with Amrita Singh secret: 'It would spoil my image'

Saif Ali Khan recalled being advised by a senior actor to keep his marriage with Amrita Singh a secret to protect his image and fan following. Calling it bizarre advice, Saif said it remains one of the worst suggestions he ever received

Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh met on the sets of Bekhudi and got married in 1991 after a brief courtship. However, their marriage couldn't withstand the test of time, and they separated after 13 years together. In a recent interview, Saif recalled how he was advised to keep his marriage with Amrita a secret as it could spoil his image.

"I remember there was a senior actor from a different generation who told me not to tell anyone that I'm married. I don't know why he told me that. I think he was trying to say that it would spoil my image and fan following. It was the worst and most bizarre advice that someone ever gave me," he told News18.

For those unversed, Saif and Amrita share two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. While Saif Ali Khan remarried, Amrita Singh has remained single over the years. Saif married Kareena Kapoor in 2012. They have two sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh Ali Khan. Kareena also shares a close and friendly bond with Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.

On the work front, Saif was recently seen in Red Chillies Entertainment-backed Kartavya. He plays a policeman named Pawan, under whose protection a journalist is assassinated, leading him to face the ire of his boss, played by Manish Chaudhari. He has been receiving praise for his portrayal.

The actor will next be seen in Priyadarshan's Haiwaan. The film is a remake of the Malayalam film Oppam and reunites him with Akshay Kumar after 17 years. The actors have wrapped up shooting for the film, and it is reportedly set to hit theatres in 2026, though the makers haven't confirmed an official release date yet.

He is also a part of Rahul Dholakia's Hum Hindustani, a Netflix thriller co-starring Pratik Gandhi. The project tells the untold behind-the-scenes story of India's first general elections in 1951-1952. Saif Ali Khan plays a principled officer named Sudeep Sengupta, a character inspired by Sukumar Sen, who led the monumental task of organising the elections. Alongside Saif and Pratik, the film also stars Deepak Dobriyal, Mimi Chakraborty, Sarika, and Shraddha Dangar.
