The release date of Ayushmann Khurrana's upcoming comedy-drama film Udta Teer has been postponed. Directed by Aakash Kaushik, the film was earlier set to be released in theatres on October 9. However, it will now arrive in theatres almost two weeks later.
The makers of the film announced the new release date on Friday, October 2, 2026. While Udta Teer has been generating encouraging buzz with its recently released trailer and ongoing promotions, the makers have made a theatrical call by moving the release to October 23. This has been decided to give it a cleaner release window and a stronger theatrical runway instead of compromising on screens in a suddenly crowded marketplace.
Notably, the earlier release date would have placed the film just a week after the release of Ajay Devgn's Drishyam The Conclusion, which released on October 2. The Ajay Devgn-starrer has been receiving an overwhelming response at the box office and is expected to perform well in the days to come.
Additionally, the makers of the Marathi film, Godhal, which has been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars, have also announced paid previews of the film in selected cities starting October 9. Thus, the decision to postpone Udta Teer seems to be a fair one in order to avoid competing with the two films, which are expected to do well.
Udta Teer stars Ayushmann as a Pakistani spy who loses his memory. He eventually gets listed as an Indian counter-intelligence soldier, confusing his Pakistani bosses. The film also features Sara Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe in pivotal roles.
The film has been written and helmed by Akash A Kaushik, who is making his directorial debut with the film. It is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain.
On the workfront, Ayushmann Khurrana was last seen in the romantic comedy, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, alongside Sara. Meanwhile, Ayushmann also has Sooraj Barjatya's Yeh Prem Mol Liya and Sameer Saxena's Mupapa in the pipeline.
