Varun Dhawan recently spoke candidly about the loneliness that actors face with fame, adding that many actors struggle behind the scenes, despite living lives that may appear glamorous from the outside. During the conversation, Varun also spoke about Salman Khan's viral late-night Instagram posts.
During a recent interview with Bombay Times, the actor opened up about the pressures of stardom, explaining why he has tried to remain authentic instead of creating a carefully crafted public image. Varun said, "Actors' lives are very lonely. Ninety per cent of actors are very lonely."
He explained, "Luckily, from the beginning, I've dropped the façade. What Varun is there, Varun is here also. I'm not like, your back has to be straight all the time. I try not to do that. My mental health will go for a toss. I can't pretend because somewhere, it (the bubble) would burst."
Varun also shared that he has always preferred being himself, even if it occasionally means speaking without a filter. Recalling his early years in the industry, the actor admitted, "If you see my earlier interviews, I was even moohfat and aur bhi bakwas karta tha main. Now, people are getting more conscious because of social media. But what's the most that can happen? They'll cancel you."
During the conversation, he also discussed social media and the pressure celebrities face online. Varun spoke about Salman Khan as someone who often remains unapologetically himself despite constant public scrutiny. Laughingly, Varun said, "When I see Salman bhaiâs posts at night, he's going into another zone only."
Varun added that authenticity matters more than maintaining a polished image. "You've got to be yourself, whether that's good or bad, but at least you'll be yourself. Otherwise, you won't even realise what you've become," he said.
Salman Khan's late-night Instagram posts went viral last month due to their unusual nature and cryptic captions. The superstar shared a series of selfies while warning paparazzi against taking advantage of his and his family's personal struggles. Salman also suggested that he would not worry about the impact on his upcoming film Maatrubhumi if photographers crossed boundaries and invaded his privacy.
