Released in 1993, Darr became a talking point for its unusual portrayal of Shah Rukh Khan's obsessive character against Sunny Deol's hero, leading to a rift between the actors. Years later, Amitabh Bachchan revealed on Kaun Banega Crorepati that Sunny had torn his pants in anger. Now, Sunny has opened up about his equation with SRK and insecurity in the industry.

Sunny Deol on SRK being insecure

In a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Sunny was asked about that phase and his equation with Shah Rukh Khan. To this, he replied, "At a younger age, like I won't say that we don't have a little something with each other. We do have that. And I have never been like that. I am not an insecure person. I am never insecure on set. But because of insecurity, many actors do things which they don't have to do. Because we can only be the character we are."

He added, "We cannot be anything beyond that. But somehow, quite a lot of actors feel very insecure. And because of that, the vibes go wrong. Things happen which don't have to happen. But then, that's the reality of our film industry."

When asked, "Are you friends today?" he said, "He wasn't my enemy either. Friends means we are all colleagues. In the film industry, I would say we are all more of our colleagues rather than friends."

Sunny and SRK's feud

SRK played the role of a murderous stalker in Darr, which also starred Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. It is said that Sunny was so unhappy with SRK's character being glorified that they ended up not speaking to each other for years. In an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said, "At the end of the day, people loved me in the film. They loved Shah Rukh Khan as well. My only issue with the film was that I did not know they would glorify the villain."

However, when Sunny's Gadar 2 became a massive hit, the entire industry came together to celebrate the day. Shah Rukh Khan's entry into the party ensured that both superstars had buried the hatchet. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sunny expressed a desire to collaborate with SRK again and said, "Shah Rukh ke saath ek hi film ki thi. Toh ek aur kar sakte hain. It would be nice because that was a different period, and now it's a different period, so definitely."

On the work front, the actor currently stars in Batwara 1947, which also features Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi. He next has Ramayana in the pipeline, in which he essays the role of Lord Hanuman.
