Kunal Kemmu is ready to turn up the madness on the big screen with VIBE, and going by the trailer, the actor-filmmaker is not holding back. Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the trailer of the upcoming action-comedy, which brings together high-stakes danger, quirky humour, friendship and plenty of chaos. The film is slated to release in cinemas on September 18.
Written and directed by Kemmu, VIBE follows two friends who find themselves caught in a situation far bigger than anything they could have imagined. Kemmu plays Hardik, while Sparsh Shrivastava steps in as his friend Bugs. The two appear to be leading fairly ordinary lives until circumstances push them into an unexpected mission where survival suddenly becomes their biggest priority.
The trailer wastes little time establishing that Hardik and Bugs are hardly your conventional heroes. They are thrown into a national crisis despite being spectacularly unprepared for what lies ahead. Their lack of experience becomes a major source of the comedy, while the escalating danger keeps the stakes high.
Preity G Zinta adds another interesting layer as Madam H, a determined woman who appears to be the force pushing the unlikely duo into action. The role marks a different space for the actor, who gets to combine attitude, action and humour while playing a character driven by her commitment to protecting the country.
The trailer also packs in chases, action sequences, peppy music and plenty of banter between the central characters. Rather than presenting its heroes as larger-than-life action stars, the film seems to find its humour in watching two regular men struggle to survive a situation completely beyond their control.
Alongside Kemmu, Zinta and Shrivastava, the film features Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav in pivotal roles. Produced by Kemmu and Chirag Nihalani under their Drongo Films banner, the film is their first production.
Kemmu has described VIBE as an entertainer built around the ingredients he enjoys most about cinema, comedy, action, romance and music. The filmmaker has also highlighted the friendship at the heart of the story, with the characters' questionable decisions seemingly adding to their increasingly chaotic predicament.
With Amazon MGM Studios backing the theatrical release, VIBE is aiming squarely for the big-screen crowd. Whether Hardik and Bugs can actually rise to the occasion remains to be seen, but the trailer certainly suggests audiences are in for a loud, irreverent and unpredictable ride when VIBE arrives in theatres on September 18. Kunal Kemmu's VIBE will be clashing with sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor's Daayra.
