Amitabh Bachchan's much-loved Sunday tradition continued at his Mumbai residence, Jalsa, but with an unusual security arrangement. The Bollywood megastar greeted fans from behind a transparent bulletproof enclosure on November 1, days after reports of a bomb threat targeting his home. Accompanied by son Abhishek Bachchan, the actor waved at admirers as security personnel kept watch over the gathering. The appearance offered fans a glimpse of the veteran star while highlighting the heightened security surrounding his residence.
Videos from outside Jalsa showed Amitabh standing inside a transparent protective shell installed on an elevated platform. The actor acknowledged the crowd with his familiar wave, while Abhishek remained close by. According to The News Mill, the enclosure was introduced as an additional security measure. Mumbai Police personnel were also present as fans gathered behind barricades.
The weekly Sunday Darshan has been a longstanding tradition for Bachchan, with admirers regularly assembling outside his Juhu bungalow to catch a glimpse of the actor. The latest appearance came after a reported bomb threat email allegedly naming his residence as a potential target.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the alleged threat led to increased security around Bachchan's residence. Mumbai Police launched an investigation after receiving information about the email in October. The email threatened several locations, including the actor's Juhu bungalow, the Mumbai mayor's office and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming concert. Authorities were investigating the authenticity of the message and attempting to trace its sender.
The latest appearance also comes amid the actor's recent health update. Bachchan had informed fans that he needed additional rest as he continued his recovery. In a post on his Tumblr blog, the actor wrote, "Yet more rest needed .. adjusting .. thinking and wondering .. the human body and its uniqueness." Despite the security concerns and his recovery, Bachchan's Sunday appearance offered a reassuring moment for fans who have made the weekly gathering outside Jalsa a tradition of their own. On the professional front, Bachchan continues to host the popular television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. His last film appearance was in the 2024 Tamil film Vettaiyan, alongside Rajinikanth.
