Tom Cruise is set to return on screen with Digger, an original film from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Inarritu. Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film features Academy Award-winning actor Tom Cruise, who stars as Digger Rockwell, an oil baron whose company has potentially triggered an ecological catastrophe with the possibility of sparking a nuclear war.
As the consequences of his actions threaten to go beyond control, Digger, who is the most powerful man, embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he alone can save humanity before the disaster he unleashes destroys everything.
Tom Cruise is seen in a never-before-seen avatar starring in the title role alongside Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Oscar nominee Sandra Huller, Michael Stuhlbarg and Oscar nominee Jesse Plemons. The film also stars Robert John Burke, Emma D'Arcy, Burn Gorman and Sophie Wilde.
The makers also dropped a movie poster on social media on July 13, wherein the Top Gun: Maverick star's shocking makeover is leaving the fans stunned as he wears facial prosthetics to age him. To complete the look, Cruise wears a brown cowboy hat with grey hair sticking out as he poses confidently for the camera. In the poster, one of this feet rests on a globe while one hand holds onto a shovel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Cruise opened up about the transformation during Q&A event in Los Angeles on July 9, saying, "I have never had something that could challenge me in this way and neither has Alejandro when we went in, ever, and when you see this film, it's totally original."
The caption of the post read, "Digg. Or Die. DIGGER. Only in theatres October 2."
The film is produced by Inarritu, Oscar nominee Mary Parent, Tom Cruise and Michael Sharp, while Joshua Grode, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone, Jez Butterworth and Emmanuel Lubezki serve as executive producers.
Digger is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 26, 2026. Joining director Inarritu behind the camera are collaborators including Oscar-winning director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki; editors Conor O'Neill and Oscar winner Stephen Mirrione; Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West; Oscar-winning makeup and hair designer Alessandro Bertolazzi; and Oscar-nominated casting director Francine Maisler; alongside Oscar-winning production designer Dennis Gassner and production designer Richard Johnson, Oscar-winning prosthetic makeup designer Kazu Hiro, and composer Cosmo Sheldrake.
