The wait is finally over for Dune fans. The first trailer of Dune: Part Three has dropped, offering a spectacular glimpse into the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed sci-fi trilogy. Adapted from Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, the film shifts its focus from Paul Atreides' rise to power to the devastating consequences of becoming Emperor. Packed with breathtaking visuals, emotional confrontations and surprising character returns, the trailer hints at the franchise's most intense chapter yet.

Led once again by Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani, the story picks up nearly two decades after the events of Dune: Part Two. While Paul now rules the galaxy, the holy war fought in his name has left unimaginable destruction behind, forcing him to confront the cost of his decisions.

Dune: Part Three trailer reveals Duncan Idaho's return

One of the trailer's biggest surprises is the return of Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho, despite the beloved warrior sacrificing himself in Dune: Part One. Fans quickly discover that this is not the original Duncan but Hayt, a "ghola" recreated by the mysterious Tleilaxu using Duncan's preserved cells. His return appears emotional at first, but the trailer suggests he has been sent as part of a larger conspiracy designed to destabilise Paul's reign.

The footage also teases growing tensions between Paul and Chani, who still struggles to accept his decision to seize the throne. Their emotional distance becomes one of the film's central conflicts as rebellion begins to rise across the empire.

Timothee Chalamet's character faces powerful new enemies

The trailer confirms that Paul, played by Timothee Chalamet, will face threats from every direction. Florence Pugh returns as Princess Irulan, while Charlotte Rampling reprises her role as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, continuing the Bene Gesserit's efforts to regain influence after Paul's rise disrupted their centuries-old plans.

Robert Pattinson also makes his first appearance as the mysterious shape-shifting Scytale, while audiences get a glimpse of Guild Navigator Edric, whose ability to foresee the future makes him a formidable opponent.

The trailer also introduces the terrifying Stone Burner, a banned superweapon capable of mass destruction, while teasing Paul's apparent blindness following its use. Another emotional moment reveals Paul and Chani discussing names for their future children, Ghanima and Leto, a nod that long-time readers of Herbert's novels will immediately recognise.

Alongside Chalamet and Zendaya, Dune: Part Three stars Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, Charlotte Rampling and Isaach de Bankole. The film arrives in theatres and IMAX internationally on December 16, before its North American release on December 18, 2026.
