Teri Hatcher is set to take over one of the most iconic roles in the West End. The Desperate Housewives star will replace Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly in the London production of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. Hatcher will begin performances at the Dominion Theatre from October 20, 2026.
Williams, who originated the role of Miranda Priestly in the West End production, will give her final performance on September 19. She has played the formidable fashion editor for nearly two years, helping the musical establish itself as a major London stage production.
Following Williams' departure, Debbie Kurup will temporarily step into the role of Miranda from September 21 to October 17, before Hatcher begins her scheduled run on October 20. Hatcher is currently expected to play the character until February 6, 2027.
The casting also marks a reunion for Hatcher and Williams, who previously worked together on the popular television series Desperate Housewives. Hatcher is best known for playing Susan Mayer on the long-running show, while Williams joined the cast as Renee Perry.
Speaking about taking on the role to HELLO!, Hatcher expressed her excitement at portraying Miranda Priestly, a character made globally famous by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film adaptation. She described Miranda as intelligent, commanding and fiercely ambitious, adding that the character's sharp wit and confidence make the role particularly exciting for her.
Hatcher is no stranger to the stage. She previously played Sally Bowles in a national tour of Cabaret and more recently portrayed Morticia Addams in The Addams Family. Her casting as Miranda, however, marks one of her biggest West End roles to date.
The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical is based on Lauren Weisberger's bestselling novel and the hit 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. The stage adaptation features music by Elton John, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick, and a book by Kate Wetherhead. Jerry Mitchell serves as director and choreographer.
The musical follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs, who lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the powerful editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway. As Andy enters Miranda's glamorous but demanding world, she is forced to balance her professional ambitions with her personal life.
The London production has been a strong performer at the Dominion Theatre and has now extended its booking period until September 2027. Hatcher's arrival will bring a new interpretation to one of the production's central characters while continuing the musical's West End run.
