Gal Gadot has addressed speculation about reprising her role as Wonder Woman in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe. The actress, who became synonymous with the character after making her debut as Diana Prince in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, revealed that there had been discussions about continuing the franchise, but she has not heard anything concrete recently.

Speaking while promoting her upcoming Prime Video thriller The Runner to ScreenRant, Gadot was asked about the possibility of returning as Wonder Woman in the revamped DCU. The actress said she has not had "any specific conversations" about reprising the role or taking on another character within the new DC Universe.

Gadot, however, revealed that there had previously been plans to develop another Wonder Woman film. Gal now shared, the studio had expressed strong interest in moving forward with a third instalment. "Last I heard, they came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one," Gadot said. However, she added that those conversations happened some time ago and that she has not received any further updates since then.

The possibility of Gadot returning has been a subject of speculation ever since DC Studios began reshaping its cinematic universe under Gunn and Safran. The new DCU has been taking a fresh approach to several iconic characters, leaving fans wondering which actors from the previous DC universe could return.

Gadot first appeared as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before headlining Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman in 2017. The film became a major success and established Gadot as one of the most recognisable actors associated with the superhero genre. She subsequently reprised the role in Justice League and Wonder Woman 1984, as well as making appearances in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

While Gadot remains uncertain about her own future as Diana Prince, she expressed warmth towards whoever eventually gets the opportunity to portray the superhero next. "This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it's going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character. And I'm just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.," she said, adding that she hopes whoever takes on the role enjoys the experience. Gadot also expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to portray Wonder Woman and represent what the character stands for.

For now, there is no confirmed announcement regarding Gadot's return to the DCU as Wonder Woman. Her latest comments suggest that while a third film had once been discussed, her involvement in the franchise remains uncertain.
