BTS member Jimin unwittingly prompted new discussions over South Korea's military situation. The debate erupted when the new trailer for the travel docuseries Are You Sure?! Jimin was shown reflecting about his military enlistment.
Jimin and Jungkook finished their necessary military service earlier this year, joining other BTS members who had already been discharged.
In the trailer for Jimin and Jungkook's new series Are You Sure?!, the two were seen having a candid talk. Jimin recalls not showering for days. "I didn't shower for five days," he explained. While some admirers smiled at his lighthearted announcement, others raised concerns over his health and criticised South Korea's brutal military conditions.
This was not the first day that fans expressed their outrage over the situation. Previously, when Jimin and RM were discharged, they were extremely fatigued, fueling long-standing concerns about the pressures the idols face while in the military.
Jimin's anecdote revived debate about the South Korean military's bad treatment of young soldiers.
A fellow fan wrote: "So here they're talking about their military days when they couldn't shower for five whole days⦠And the way Jimin is cracking up while telling it⦠I can't stop laughing."
Another expressed relief, adding, "I'm glad Jimin is done with his military service and can look back and laugh about it now."
While fans are glad that BTS idols' military service, including Jimin's, has ended, this disclosure has highlighted the need for basic hygiene supplies and better living conditions for South Korean military personnel.
Jimin is slated to reunite with fellow BTS member Jungkook for their trip series Are You Sure?! Season 2. Jimin and Jungkook will explore several destinations in Switzerland and Vietnam, including the Matterhorn, Hoi An, Poschiavo, and Da Nang, with a guidebook and no entourages.
According to BIGHIT Music, the docuseries will expose "the natural reactions and true personalities of Jimin and Jungkook as they navigate new experiences". Are you sure?! Season 2 will consist of eight episodes and will air on Disney+ on December 3.
