The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has now cleared director Prem's upcoming action spectacle KD: The Devil, featuring Kannada star Dhruva Sarja in the lead, for release with an 'A' certificate.

Confirming the development, KVN Productions, the production house producing the film, on its X timeline on Wednesday said, "‘A' CERTIFIED. Raw. Ruthless. Real KDTheDevil 1 DAY TO GO."

The film has been attracting controversy one after the other ever since its announcement.

KD The Devil trailer taken down

It may be recalled that the makers of the film had taken down the film's trailer and expressed regret for uncertified content getting inadvertently included in the trailer.

In an official statement shared on social media, KVN Productions revealed the reason behind the move. They explained the faux pas, saying, "The trailer of KD: The Devil recently released on YouTube inadvertently included certain uncertified content during certification process."

The popular production house, which is also the firm that is producing actor Vijay's last film Jana Nayagan, went on to add, "We have therefore taken down the trailer and will be uploading a revised version shortly, in compliance with the certification guidelines."

Expressing regret for the lapse, the production house said, "We sincerely regret this oversight and remain fully committed to adhering to all certification norms."

About the Sarke Chunar controversy

Earlier, the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the upcoming film KD: The Devil had been embroiled in controversy, with many objecting to its lyrics and visuals. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Kangana Ranaut, and Armaan Malik criticised the song, starring Nora Fatehi, for its objectionable lyrics.

According to ANI, an advocate approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking an immediate ban and removal of the song, alleging that its lyrics and visuals in the video are obscene and harmful, particularly to minors. Additionally, a criminal complaint has also been filed with the Delhi Police Cyber Cell regarding the song.

The issue even escalated to the National Commission for Women (NCW), which summoned key individuals associated with the track.

Directed by Prem, the film is a large-scale action entertainer starring Dhruva Sarja. The cast also features Shilpa Shetty, V. Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiah and Nora Fatehi, with Sanjay Dutt playing a key role. Amid the ongoing controversies and troubles, KD: The Devil is scheduled to hit theatres on April 30, 2026.
