Harsh Chhaya (A still from Undekhi)
The fourth season of Undekhi promises to be darker, grittier and far more intense than before. One of the biggest highlights this season is the transformation of Papaji, played by Harsh Chhaya, who is finally stepping into direct action after largely operating from the shadows in previous seasons.
In an exclusive conversation with Mid-day, Harsh opened up about Papaji's mindset, his thirst for revenge and the evolution of the character in the latest season. According to the actor, revenge for Papaji is extremely straightforward and brutal.
"His revenge is what? Kill. That's all," Harsh said while explaining the character's psyche. "He understands revenge in one thing, that kill the other, cut the throat, cut the hand. So that's for revenge for him is, I guess that's all it is for him."
However, the actor clarified that Papaji's actions this season are not necessarily driven by personal revenge against Rinku. Instead, circumstances and rising tensions push the character to his breaking point.
"But in this case, of course, as he is talking about the story, he certainly is not interested in any kind of revenge with Rinku," Harsh explained. "But it seems that people running, people behind Rinku have taken things to a limit where Papaji has now lost his patience."
This time around, viewers will witness a very different side of Papaji. While previous seasons showed others carrying out violence on his behalf, season four sees him personally stepping into dangerous territory.
"So then he decides to pick up the gun, because up till now we haven't seen him in action that way, all the action is being done for him by Rinku," Harsh shared.
The actor further revealed that the new season will showcase Papaji becoming directly involved in violent confrontations and taking matters into his own hands.
"This time he is on his own and he reaches a point where he feels that enough is enough and he now has decided to pick up the gun and come in the field and do some chasing and running around and shooting people and taking care of them," he said.
Calling it the biggest shift in the character arc, Harsh added, "So that is the new thing about Papaji in this season where he will take things in his hands."
Apart from discussing Undekhi, Harsh also reflected on his own journey in the entertainment industry and his passion for acting. Despite having explored writing and directing earlier in his career, the actor said performing continues to remain his true calling.
"I'm just doing acting. I'm doing what I understand. I haven't started anything else," he said. "It's correlated. I have written and directed earlier. But acting has been my calling more than anything else."
With Papaji now stepping into full-fledged action mode, season four of Undekhi is expected to raise the stakes higher than ever before.
