For those looking to combine fitness, fresh air and a leisurely weekend outing, Pedal & Go's newly-launched Breakfast Ride offers a beginner-friendly cycling experience through some of Mumbai's best-known routes. Starting from Worli Seaface, the ride takes participants through Worli Promenade and Siddhivinayak Temple to Shivaji Park before stopping for breakfast at a popular local eatery, and returning to the starting point. The initiative is the brainchild of brothers Tanish and Naman Rankhambe, who previously worked with a cycle ride organiser that organised rides and cycle rentals. Inspired by that experience, the duo decided to launch their own venture.

"We began with just four cycles. From there, we gradually expanded and began organising midnight and morning rides," says Tanish. Covering approximately 15 to 20 km over two-and-a-half to three hours, the ride is designed for people returning to cycling after a long break, as well as those seeking a relaxed weekend fitness routine. According to Tanish, many participants are not regular cyclists but individuals revisiting a childhood hobby.

"Daily cyclists are fewer at such events. Most participants are those who used to cycle earlier, and want to start again," he said. The rides attract a mix of local residents, tourists and even international visitors. While fitness is one motivation, Tanish believes social interaction is a bigger draw. "Most participants come for socialising, fun and a break from everyday life," he said.

Guidelines for amateur cyclists

>> Wear a properly fitted helmet and comfortable sportswear
>> Carry a water bottle and stay hydrated throughout the ride
>> Follow traffic rules and stay alert to vehicles and pedestrians
>> Check your bicycle's brakes, tyres, and gears before you set off
>> Ride at a comfortable pace and avoid sudden turns or braking
