Marking International Women's Day 2026, the Mumbai Police organised a special programme to return stolen and lost mobile phones to women complainants.
The initiative was carried out under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Mumbai Zone 2, in the presence of Nirbhaya officers, as part of efforts to recognise women's rights, equality and their contribution to society.
During the programme, police returned 130 recovered mobile phones, collectively valued at around Rs 26 lakh, to women complainants. The phones had earlier been reported lost or stolen.
The recovery was made possible through the joint efforts of cyber officers, crime detection teams and the zonal cyber laboratory working under police stations in Zone 2.
Police officials said teams carried out investigations across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu to trace the devices.
Using technical analysis and cyber investigation tools, officers worked continuously to track and recover the stolen phones from different parts of the country.
Women who received their recovered phones expressed satisfaction and thanked the Mumbai Police for their efficiency and prompt action.
Police officials said the force remains committed to ensuring women's safety and resolving their complaints effectively. They added that the department continues to use modern technology to help citizens recover lost property and strengthen public safety.
