Two men who allegedly entered the National Security Guard's (NSG) regional hub in Marol, Andheri and attempted to steal construction material on Tuesday night were chased down and apprehended by NSG commandos before being handed over to the Powai police station, where an FIR was filed against them. The duo, Shamim Salim Sheikh, 33, and Suraj Garjan Yadav, 18, was arrested.
According to the police, Bijender Singh, an assistant commander posted at the camp, was patrolling the premises along with Ranger Dattatraya Satpute. Around 11 pm, they noticed two suspicious individuals near a newly constructed officers' housing project located opposite the officers' mess.
As they moved in to investigate, they saw the suspects carrying bundles of iron rods on their shoulders approaching the compound wall. Using a ladder, the duo climbed the wall and threw the bundles of iron rods outside the camp premises. However, upon noticing the approaching security personnel, they jumped off the wall and attempted to flee.
The matter was immediately reported to the Quick Response Team (QRT), and Assistant Commander Ranjit Kadam and his team intercepted the suspects outside the camp and detained them along with the stolen material. Other security personnel soon arrived at the spot. The security team recovered five bundles of four-foot-long iron rods weighing a total of 100 kg, along with a 10-foot-long iron channel.
