Mumbai Police have arrested a man who had allegedly been evading arrest and court proceedings for three years in connection with a cheque bounce case.
The accused, identified as Kumar Anand Raj, was arrested by the Vanrai Police from Ekta Nagar in Charkop in the early hours of Wednesday.
Raj was wanted in a case involving M/s IUS Center and Instaday Foods and Beverages Pvt Ltd, registered under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
According to the police, repeated summons and arrest warrants had been issued against Raj by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Srinagar. However, he allegedly remained untraceable after abandoning his known residential address.
The Srinagar court had expressed serious displeasure over the delay in apprehending the accused and his continued absence from the proceedings. The court had also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 3 North Region, to personally appear before it if the accused was not arrested.
Following the court's directions, a team from Vanrai Police Station launched an operation using technical surveillance and field intelligence to trace Raj.
Acting on confidential information, the police located the accused in the Ekta Nagar area of Charkop.
Police arrested Raj at around 4 am on August 12 under Sections 84(1) and 84(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The arrested accused was produced before the 17th Metropolitan Magistrate's Court and was subsequently handed over to the custody of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further legal proceedings.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Vanrai Police Station Senior Inspector Abdul Rauf Shaikh.
The investigation team comprised Inspector Subhashchandra Posture, Sub-Inspectors Darule, Ranjit Vanve, Bankat Talekar, and Constable Omkar Naik.
