The Maharashtra State Excise Department has seized 600 boxes containing fake country liquor and arrested one person in connection with its transportation in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off about the illegal transportation of counterfeit country liquor, officials from the State Excise Department, Thane-1, conducted a raid near Juinagar railway station on the Panvel-Sion Highway around 11.30 am.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of State Excise Commissioner Rajesh Deshmukh, Joint Commissioner (Enforcement and Vigilance) Prasad Surve, Pradip Pawar, Divisional Deputy Commissioner, Konkan Division, Thane; Pravin Tambe, Superintendent, State Excise, Thane-1; Ratnamala Gaikwad, Deputy Superintendent, State Excise, Thane-1; Anand Pawar, Acting Deputy Superintendent, Thane-1; and Deepak Shewale, Inspector, G Division, Navi Mumbai, Thane-1.

Navi Mumbai: State excise team intercepts truck carrying fake liquor

Based on information received from an informer, a team led by Secondary Inspector Pundalik Ghule of the G-3 Division, Navi Mumbai, kept watch for the suspected transportation of fake country liquor.

During the operation, officials stopped a red-and-white 10-wheeler truck.

The officials inspected the vehicle and found cardboard boxes inside. On opening the boxes, they found sealed bottles of fake country liquor from two liquor brands, with a capacity of 90 ml each.

A total of 600 boxes containing the counterfeit liquor were seized during the raid.

A case, registered as Crime Registration No 101/2026 on Saturday, was filed under provisions related to prohibition offences. The seized material included the 600 boxes of fake country liquor and the truck used for its transportation.

The total value of the seized property, including the vehicle and liquor stock, has been estimated at Rs 44.10 lakh. One accused has been arrested in connection with the case.

The raid was carried out by Shewale and Ghule, along with SN Dhondge, Secondary Inspector, G-1 Division; Pragya Pawar, Secondary Inspector, G-2 Division; Amol Hipparkar, Assistant Secondary Inspector, G Division; and State Excise personnel, including Sandip Patil, Sambhaji Chavan, Bhagwan Shelar and Sandhya Ware.

Further investigation into the case is being conducted by Ghule under the guidance of Tambe.
