The accused has a criminal history and had cases against him in Thane City, railways and Thane's rural part. We are further investigating the check how many cases are filed against him," added Kande.

The accused, employed as a sculptor for part of the year, struggled financially due to the seasonal nature of his job.

"As a sculptor, the demand for the work lasts for 3 to 6 months a year. The accused used to hardly earn a good amount and spent the cash he earned rather quickly. However, after that to manage his addiction and daily needs he started committing thefts as it gave him easy money," said the police officer.
