Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Fadnavis, who holds the home portfolio, said weekly offs of police officials, irrespective of their rank, often get cancelled for security duties.

"A hawaldar (constable) got allowance of Rs 60 if the weekly off is cancelled. The allowance varied from post to post.

We have now decided to hike the daily allowance and the police official would get one day's salary if the weekly off is cancelled," Fadnavis said.
