The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a major administrative reshuffle, transferring several Assistant Commissioners and senior officials across municipal wards and key civic departments.
The transfer order, issued by the General Administration Department on Thursday, aims to strengthen civic administration, improve coordination and enhance the delivery of public services across Mumbai.
The changes take effect immediately or from the date the officers assume charge, it stated.
According to the official order approved by Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Prajakta Verma, several senior officers have been assigned new responsibilities.
Alka Sasane has been transferred from the Markets Department and appointed Assistant Commissioner of M/East Ward.
Gajanan Bellale, previously Assistant Commissioner of A Ward, has been posted as Assistant Commissioner in the Estate Department, filling the vacancy created after the promotion of Dr Prithviraj Chauhan.
Ujjwal Ingole, who served as Assistant Commissioner of M/East Ward, has been transferred to A Ward.
The Mumbai civic body has also given additional responsibilities to several senior officers.
Swapnaja Kshirsagar will continue as Assistant Commissioner of G/South Ward while also holding additional charge as Assessor and Collector.
Yogita Kolhe will remain Assistant Commissioner of T Ward and has also been given additional responsibility as Assistant Commissioner for Encroachment Removal (Eastern Suburbs).
Sunil Mane, Executive Engineer in the Water Engineering Department, has been appointed Assistant Commissioner of C Ward while also handling additional duties in the Markets Department.
Vanita Kokate, Executive Engineer in the Sewage Disposal Department, has taken charge as Assistant Commissioner of K/South Ward.
From August 1, 2026, Jaydeep More, Executive Engineer in the Solid Waste Management Department, will assume additional charge as Assistant Commissioner of N Ward.
The reshuffle is intended to strengthen governance, improve coordination between departments and ensure more efficient delivery of civic services in Mumbai, officials said.
Meanwhile, days after Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade rejected the inquiry report submitted by a civic-appointed committee in Chembur tree collapse incident, the BMC on Thursday said that it has appointed a one-member independent committee to conduct a fresh and detailed inquiry into the matter.
The tree fall incident near Diamond Garden in Chembur had led to the death of an 11-year-old student and caused injuries to four others.
According to an official statement, the committee will be headed by botanist and former Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sanjay V Deshmukh. The civic administration has directed the committee to submit its report within one month.
"The decision follows directions from Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawade and the BMC General Body, which rejected the earlier inquiry report submitted by a civic-appointed committee," the statement said.
Mayor and the General Body observed that the initial report lacked detailed investigation, strict action recommendations and accountability measures considering the seriousness of the incident. They directed the administration to appoint an independent expert and conduct a fresh inquiry, it said.
