Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide conducted a surprise inspection of Mumbai's first and nearly century-old Pest Control Depot at Mint Road in Fort during the early hours of Wednesday.

She also reviewed operations at the A-2 Road Repair and Stores Depot, along with the Sewerage Department depot in the city's ‘A' Ward area.

During the visit, Bhide examined equipment used for pest and rodent control, assessed on-ground operational measures, and reviewed the overall functioning of the facilities.

She also checked staff attendance registers and verified the physical presence of sanitation workers on duty.

The civic chief directed officials to ensure prompt redressal of citizen complaints received through the MARG (Management and Redressal of Grievances) application and instructed departments to treat such complaints with priority.

Deputy Commissioner (Zone-1) Chanda Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner from the Municipal Commissioner's Office Prashant Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner of ‘A' Ward Gajanan Bellale, and other civic officials accompanied her during the inspection.

Ashwini Bhide inspects sanitation workers' outpost in Vikhroli

Last week, the BMC Commissioner also conducted a surprise inspection of a sanitation worker's outpost at Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli East, civic officials said.

According to the BMC, Bhide interacted with sanitation workers stationed at the outpost in the S Ward and reviewed ongoing cleanliness operations in the area.

During the visit, she directed civic officials to prioritise the cleanliness of roads, surrounding areas and junctions across Mumbai, with a stronger focus on sanitation efforts.

The BMC said the Municipal Commissioner also instructed officials to work towards eliminating garbage dumping spots through sustained public awareness initiatives and regular monitoring.

She further stressed the need for the effective utilisation of modern sanitation machinery and manpower to improve waste management operations and maintain cleanliness standards across the city.

Deputy Commissioner Prashant Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Commissioner (Zone 6) Santoshkumar Dhonde, Assistant Commissioner Samreen Sayyed and other civic officials were present during the inspection, the BMC added.

Meanwhile, BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide conducted a surprise inspection of the Kanjurmarg municipal solid waste management facility last week to review measures aimed at preventing foul odour at the site, according to the civic body.

The BMC said Bhide spent nearly one-and-a-half hours inspecting various operations at the facility and reviewing solid waste management processes. She also directed officials to improve operational efficiency and strengthen mitigation measures wherever required.

According to the BMC, the commissioner inspected the waste segregation centre, composting unit, waste-to-energy plant, and the bio-reactor landfill site during the visit.
