To safeguard pedestrians and tourist traffic in the popular, high-footfall spots of Hanging Gardens, Malabar Hill Viewing Gallery, and Malabar Hill Treetop Walkway, officials from BMC's D ward began repairing the metal spikes installed on Ridge Road.

This road connects the above-mentioned areas to Kemps Corner on Pedder Road, into the Kemps Corner Flyover. A senior civic official from the D ward told mid-day that the area witnesses tourist traffic till late in the night - almost midnight - so the spikes were being installed to discourage speeding and enforce the one-way traffic rule.
