The newly renovated Kandivali West Post Office in Mumbai was inaugurated on Monday as a modern, technology-enabled service centre under India Post's 'Jan Sewa Connect' initiative, officials said.
Union Communications and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani virtually inaugurated the facility along with 14 other post offices across eight postal circles, an official statement said.
The renovation is part of India Post's efforts to transform traditional post offices into modern and customer-friendly service hubs.
The upgraded Kandivali West facility has improved infrastructure, modern interiors, enhanced customer facilities, digital integration and a strengthened visual identity.
The project has been undertaken in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, it said.
The Kandivali West Post Office was established on April 1, 1965, and began operating from its present premises in 2014.
The renovated facility is aimed at combining India Post's long-standing public service role with technology and improved service delivery, the statement said.
The event also saw the launch of the revamped Dak Sewa app and Dak Mitra app.
Pemmasani highlighted the importance of the updated Dak Sewa app and said India Post needed to adapt to changing customer expectations.
He outlined four key areas for the transformation of India Post: technology upgrades, updated policy frameworks, organisational mindset and improved physical infrastructure.
Scindia praised India Post and the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) for developing the revamped applications.
The revamped Dak Sewa app is available in 23 Indian languages and has crossed 10 lakh downloads, according to India Post.
The Dak Mitra app is designed to provide Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) with a consolidated platform to carry out postal transactions, including booking articles and various Post Office Savings Bank transactions.
Scindia also highlighted the financial performance of India Post, saying the Department recorded a 16 per cent increase in revenue in 2025-26 compared with the previous year.
He said India Post crossed a turnover of â¹4,000 crore in the first quarter of 2026-27 for the first time.
Chief Postmaster General of the Maharashtra and Goa Circle Ramchandra Jayabhaye also addressed postmen, postwomen and other postal staff at the event.
India Post said Kandivali West is the second post office in Maharashtra to be inaugurated under the Jan Sewa Connect project.
The initiative is aimed at developing post offices as accessible, efficient and digitally enabled community service centres while strengthening last-mile connectivity.
