In an editorial in its mouthpiece 'Saamana', the Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) said Tamil Nadu has stepped into a new political era after actor-turned-politician Vijay's party, TVK, secured a historic mandate to form the government.
The editorial noted that this outcome has broken the decades-long rotation of power between the DMK and AIADMK. However, it also warned that the road ahead for the new government is likely to be challenging, according to IANS reports.
The editorial pointed out that Vijay's government has only a narrow majority, which could create challenges in maintaining stability.
It also said national political factors in Delhi could influence the state, referring to leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
"Maintaining stability will be a challenge, particularly with central influence from Delhi," the editorial noted.
As Vijay makes a striking shift from the world of cinema to the corridors of power, the editorial noted that the country is closely watching whether he can hold on to his carefully built "common man" image while adjusting to the demanding and complex realities of governance.
Also, the new CM, who identifies as Christian, has promised to rise above religious lines and lead for all communities, stressing that ensuring safety and security for every citizen remains his foremost responsibility.
The Shiv Sena UBT also commented on the swearing-in ceremony, noting its strong national symbolism.
The event began with âVande Mataram', followed by the national anthem âJana Gana Mana', and ended with the Tamil state song. The editorial said this sequence appeared to highlight national unity.
In his first public actions as Chief Minister, Vijay signed a file to provide 200 units of free electricity to domestic users, a move aimed at helping middle-class families.
His government has also announced several priorities, including:
-Action against corruption in administration
-A special task force to tackle drug networks
-Creation of a Women's Security Wing
-Financial discipline, noting the state's Rs 10 lakh crore debt
"He warned his ministers and MLAs that he would not tolerate misuse of public funds," the editorial said, reported IANS.
Vijay also called for strict control over spending due to the state's debt situation.
The editorial claimed that the formation of the new government has created ripple effects in national politics.
It said the Congress supported Vijay's government formation, which reportedly upset the DMK. It further suggested that the DMK has decided to exit the INDIA bloc, which could isolate the party politically at the national level.
Despite political tensions, outgoing Chief Minister M K Stalin was said to have extended his best wishes to the new government.
The Shiv Sena UBT also advised former Chief Minister Stalin to avoid aligning with the BJP. It cautioned him not to fall into what it called the ""silk trap of PM Modi and Shah for the benefit of the state and the nation", urging him to act in the interest of Tamil Nadu and the country.
