A 23-year-old man was found dead after allegedly dying by suicide near Hanuman Temple in Shivainagar in Thane West, on Tuesday morning, officials said.
According to information received by the Thane Municipal Corporation Disaster Management Cell at around 8:26 am, the incident was reported by the Wagle Fire Station.
The victim was found dead near the temple premises.
Following the alert, personnel from Wagle Fire Station and Vartak Nagar Police Station reached the spot along with an emergency vehicle and a mortuary ambulance.
The deceased was later transported in a mortuary ambulance in the presence of police officials to the District Government Hospital in Thane for further legal and medical formalities.
Police have registered the case and further investigation is underway.
Last week, a 34-year-old woman died after allegedly falling from the eighth floor of a residential building in the Talegaon MIDC area of Pune district in Maharashtra, police said, adding that it was probing the suicide angle into her death.
Police said, prima facie, the case appears to be a suicide and a further probe was underway to find the exact circumstances.
The incident took place between 1 pm and 1.30 pm on May 10 at a housing society near Katvi.
According to the police, following the incident, she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital after the fall, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media and is now being reviewed by the police as part of the investigation. The footage reportedly shows the woman hanging from the balcony grill before losing her grip and falling.
According to Senior Inspector Santosh Patil of Talegaon MIDC police station, the initial assessment suggests it is a case of suicide. However, a further probe was underway.
"Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The woman fell from the eighth floor and was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The viral video is being examined," he said.
An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police said.
