The third district-level gymnastics competition concluded on a high note in Kharghar on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, drawing participation from young athletes across Mumbai and its suburbs. The event was organised by the Kharghar Sports Academy at Vishwajyot High School in Sector 20.
Around 100 participants competed across age categories under 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 years, demonstrating a range of skills and routines. The competition witnessed strong turnout from parents and local sports enthusiasts.
Police Inspector Suraj Patil from the Crime Branch of Kharghar Police Station inaugurated the event. Addressing the participants, he underscored the importance of discipline, hard work and consistency in achieving success in sports.
Speaking at the event, Kharghar Sports Academy President Kiran Patil said the initiative aims to encourage children to engage in physical activity and reduce screen time. He noted that sports play a vital role in both physical fitness and mental well-being.
Riya Stepping Stone Gymnastics Club emerged as the top-performing team in the competition. Participants across categories impressed judges and spectators with their performances, and winners were felicitated by the dignitaries present.
Gymnastics coach Maruti Hajare, along with fellow trainers, played a key role in organising the event. Volunteers including Aditya Hatge, Vaibhav Shejwal, Prithviraj Patil and Prashant Patil contributed to the smooth conduct of the programme.
The event began with an introductory session by motivational speaker Naveen Khare and concluded with prize distribution, marking a successful day of competitive sport in Kharghar.
