Maharashtra: 18-year-old boy drowns in Thane lake

An official on Monday said that an 18-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his friends in a lake in Maharashtra's Thane city, reported news agency PTI.

The teenager's body was recovered from the Rayladevi Lake in the Wagle Estate area after hours of search and rescue efforts, he said, reported PTI.

Sahil Ghorpade, a resident of Sathenagar, had gone swimming with his friends on Sunday evening, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the civic disaster management cell, reported PTI.

He drowned due to the unpredictable depth and water levels, he said.

The official said teams from the disaster management cell, police personnel, fire department staff with an emergency tender and rescue vehicle, and an ambulance rushed to the scene and the body was fished out in the wee hours of Monday.

Uttar Pradesh: 3 children drown in pond in Pratapgarh

In another incident, three children from a family drowned in a pond in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh on Sunday, police said.

Kesari (7), Kuki (6) and Khushi (10) had gone to take a bath in the pond at Dharouli Madhupur ward in Kohndour, Additional Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar Singh told PTI.

People rushed to the spot when they heard the children's screams. All three were taken out of the pond and sent to the local hospital for treatment, where doctors declared them dead, reported PTI.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem, he added.

Three boys drown while bathing in village pond in Odisha's Nayagarh

Meanwhile, three boys allegedly drowned in a pond in Odisha's Nayagarh district on Sunday, police said.

The incident happened in Godibida village in Daspalla block. The boys were bathing in the village pond after attending a wedding when the incident happened, they said.

Locals rescued the boys and took them to the Daspalla hospital where a doctor declared them brought dead.

The deceased were identified as Umakant Nayak (11), Ritesh Pradhan (11) and Subham Khilari (9), police said, reported PTI.

In a similar incident, a 14-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Kathajodi river near Khannagar in Cuttack.

The deceased was identified as Suryakanta Majhi, police said, reported PTI.

Locals and fire service personnel rescued him and took him to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

In another incident, a four-year-old boy was killed, and his parents and uncle were injured after their motorcycle hit a dumper on the Patnagarh-Gaisilet Road in Bolangir district, police said.

The boy was seated on the fuel tank of the motorcycle, while his uncle was riding it, and his parents were seated behind.

The boy died on the spot. The other three persons were undergoing treatment at a hospital.
