Four men on a motorcycle were killed after a private bus collided with their two-wheeler in Maharashtra's Parbhani district, police said on Saturday, reported PTI.
An angry mob vandalised a private bus after the crash near Manwath town on Friday night, an official said.
As per preliminary information, the Pune-bound private bus collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, leaving it in a completely mangled state, he said, reported PTI.
The victims, Shubham Apparao Dahe (30), Vishnu Gore (28), Prahlad Ashokrao Kute (29), and Navnath Shamrao Jadhav (38), were killed on the spot, the official said, reported PTI.
The condition of some of the bodies was so severe that identification initially proved difficult, he said, adding that the bodies were shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem.
Locals assembled at the spot after hearing the loud crash, and tensions escalated when an angry crowd allegedly vandalised the private bus, briefly disrupting traffic on the Parbhani-Pathri Highway, reported PTI.
The driver of the private bus was arrested under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, the official added.
In another incident, one person died and five others sustained serious injuries in a collision between a motorcycle and a car in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Thursday, reported PTI.
The accident took place near Wadachiwadi in Shirur Kasar tehsil on Kalyan-Vishakhapatnam National Highway on Wednesday evening, they said.
The injured persons have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
According to the police, a car with four occupants and a motorcycle carrying two persons collided, leaving one of the two-wheeler riders dead at the scene, reported PTI.
Citing statements of the victims, police said the car flipped four times, adding that a probe into the accident is underway.
Meanwhile, five persons had a narrow escape after a car and a truck caught fire in separate incidents in Maharashtra's Thane city early on Tuesday, officials said, reported PTI.
A blaze erupted in the car carrying four friends at 4.06 am near Saket Bridge on the Mumbai-Nashik highway while the vehicle was on its way from Kalyan bypass towards Gaimukh on Ghodbunder Road, Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi said, reported PTI.
"As soon as smoke and flames were noticed, the driver pulled the vehicle to the roadside and all the occupants got out safely," he said, adding that no person was injured.
The four-wheeler suffered extensive damage in the blaze, the official said.
Fire brigade, police and disaster management cell personnel rushed to the spot after being alerted, and the blaze was doused by 4.54 am, he said, reported PTI.
In another incident, a parked truck caught fire near Ambeghosale Lake at Castlemill Naka at 4.33 am, and the driver's cabin was damaged, Tadvi said, reported PTI.
No one was injured. Fire brigade personnel extinguished the blaze by 5.05 am, he said.
Investigations were underway to ascertain the cause of both fires, officials said.
