Several parts of Maharashtra continued to witness soaring temperatures on Monday, with Akola recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 42.5 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Yavatmal, which is among the hottest regions in the Vidarbha region, recorded 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Wardha at 41.9 degrees Celsius, Chandrapur at 41.2 degrees Celsius, Gondia at 41 degrees Celsius, and Nagpur at 40.8 degrees Celsius.
Buldhana also remained warm, with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees Celsius.
In Marathwada, Beed recorded a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius, while Parbhani touched 40.5 degrees Celsius. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar registered 39.3 degrees Celsius.
Central Maharashtra also experienced intense heat. Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, while Sangli touched 39.2 degrees Celsius and Solapur recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius. Kolhapur registered 37.3 degrees Celsius, and Satara recorded 37.8 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai and its neighbouring regions witnessed hot and humid weather conditions. Mumbai city recorded a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz, which is representative of the suburbs, registered 34.9 degrees Celsius. Coastal stations, including Ratnagiri and Panjim, remained comparatively cooler due to maritime influence.
The IMD stated that Pune's Shivajinagar observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, with the maximum likely to touch 37 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity levels stood at 68 per cent in the morning and are expected to drop during the day.
The weather department has forecast mainly clear skies with the possibility of light rain or thundershowers towards evening or night in isolated regions across the state.
The IMD on Monday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Pune, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds in the latter half of the day.
A weather bulletin stated that isolated areas across the three districts are likely to experience a change in weather conditions, with wind speeds expected to reach 30 to 40 kmph.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected at isolated places across Mumbai and neighbouring districts.
"Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places are very likely," the alert stated.
