Maharashtra continued to reel under hot and dry weather conditions on Saturday, with several parts of the state recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Jalgaon in Madhya Maharashtra emerged as the hottest location in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Malegaon at 42.4 degrees Celsius and Akola in Vidarbha at 42.2 degrees Celsius.
Wardha also remained hot at 41.5 degrees Celsius, while Beed touched 41.0 degrees Celsius.
Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.8 degrees Celsius, both slightly above normal. The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies for the city on Sunday, with partly cloudy conditions likely towards the afternoon or evening.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Lohgaon was among the hotter locations in the Pune region at 40.3 degrees Celsius, while Nashik recorded 40.1 degrees Celsius. Solapur and Dharashiv registered maximum temperatures of 39.7 degrees Celsius and 39.6 degrees Celsius respectively.
In the Konkan region, Mumbai city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius, while the Santacruz station, indicative of the weather in the suburbs, touched 35.6 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai continued to reel under intense heat on Saturday, with several eastern suburbs recording high daytime temperatures, according to IMD data.
Ram Mandir recorded the city's highest maximum temperature at 39.0 degrees Celsius, closely followed by Vikhroli at 38.8 degrees Celsius.
Tata Power in Chembur recorded 36.6 degrees Celsius, while Vidyavihar and Dahisar both logged 35.7 degrees Celsius. Bandra recorded a maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius.
The data indicates that eastern and central suburbs remained significantly hotter than coastal areas during the day.
Ratnagiri received light rainfall of 7 millimetres even as most parts of the state remained dry.
Vidarbha continued to experience intense heat, with Nagpur and Amravati both recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Washim recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 18.8 degrees Celsius.
The Regional Meteorological Centre Nagpur on Friday evening, however, issued a yellow nowcast warning for several districts in Vidarbha, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next three hours.
According to the IMD bulletin issued at 7 pm on Saturday, thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places in Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Bhandara districts.
The warning will remain valid for three hours from the time of issue.
Residents in the affected districts have been advised to take necessary precautions and avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
