What is CIDCO up to?

I had applied for the CIDCO housing lottery and deposited Rs 2,00,000 on 28/02/2026, with the hope of securing a home in Navi Mumbai. However, to date, CIDCO has neither announced the lottery date nor provided any option for applicants to request a refund. It's been four months now but no update from CIDCO. This situation is affecting nearly 50,000 people, many of whom are from economically weaker sections. It is deeply concerning that a government authority can collect such large sums from citizens without taking any action or offering clarity. Request your help.

Govt office in terrible state

The Stamp Duty & Registration Office at Jogeshwari West is functioning in an extremely unhygienic and neglected condition. The premises are littered with garbage, dusty cobwebs cover the walls and ceilings, and the building appears poorly maintained despite receiving hundreds of citizens every day. Such conditions pose health risks and reflect poorly on a public office meant to serve the public. The authorities concerned are requested to undertake immediate cleaning of the premises.

Footpath encroached

PIC/Iqbal Gilani Mansuri

This is to bring to your notice the illegal encroachment of a footpath and a portion of the road near Mandir-Masjid, Yari Road, Andheri West. Due to this encroachment, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, creating inconvenience and posing a serious safety risk to both pedestrians and motorists. Request authorities to take immediate action and ensure the footpath and road remain clear for public use.

Footpath has disappeared

PIC/Anil D'Souza

Please note this footpath outside Mogra Metro station, has suddenly disappeared due to new construction activity. Who has encroached on this public footpath and why is BMC silent about the loss and theft of public government land meant for footpath? This is on the service road from Andheri to Jogeshwati side : north bound.

Garbage in river

Pic/Kiran Chaudhari

This is a view of the Dahisar (W) River (Gaothan area) during high tide, and garbage thrown by the residents of Gaothan is seen floating in this river. And, this garbage and silt is dragged into the sea during the low tide. Since the administration is failing to take action against those throwing such garbage, such a scene is being witnessed every day during the high tide. Seeing this, we, the environment-loving citizens, feel sorry for the ocean that swallows this daily.

Responses

After Mumbaikars sent in their questions and woes to mid-day last Monday, some of the authorities concerned responded. We haven't given up on the rest. We shall continue to hold authorities accountable for the state of the city.

Where's the space?

Reader: Raj Rasania
BMC responds: According to BMC, all footpaths need to be at least 1.2 metres wide. An offical said, "The understanding is that this cannot compromise the space of the carriageway. Especially, in sensitive areas where access for emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire brigade) needs to be prioritised." But, BMC plans model footpaths across the city that adhere to footpath design guidelines.
