Mumbai airport on Thursday conducted an emergency drill, using a dummy aircraft and a simulated fire to test how quickly and effectively its teams could respond in a real crisis, sources said.

The full-scale exercise created a scene of controlled chaos as fire engines, medical teams, security staff and ground personnel rushed into action, they said.

The aim was to check coordination between different airport departments and ensure that emergency procedures work smoothly when every second counts.

As part of the drill, this time, Indian Air force (IAF) was also seen participating and airlifting the passengers in an emergency scenario.

Such drills are essential for maintaining high safety standards and improving preparedness. The realistic exercises help teams stay sharp and ready for unexpected situations, whether involving aircraft faults, fire outbreaks or passenger emergencies.

The drill formed part of the airport's routine safety checks, carried out in line with aviation regulations.
