Ahead of the Mumbai airport's Terminal 1 (T1) redevelopment, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) Director Jeet Adani and CEO of its Airports Business Arun Bansal on Tuesday held discussions with airlines, an official statement said.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) has assured airlines that the redevelopment of Terminal 1 (T1) will be planned to minimise disruption to flight operations and that historical slot allocations will be respected.

It has also committed not to disturb any airline slots during the winter schedule, following a meeting with the Airport Operators Committee (AOC) on Tuesday.

Jeet Adani and Arun Bansal met the AOC of Mumbai Airport to discuss the redevelopment of the ageing T1 infrastructure.

According to a MIAL spokesperson, both sides agreed to work together on the implementation plan, with a joint working group expected to prepare a proposal over the next two weeks.

Joint working group to prepare plan

The meeting agreed to set up a joint working group to develop a plan for implementing the redevelopment of T1.

The group will work over the next two weeks to address the operational requirements associated with upgrading the terminal.

MIAL said it had assured the airline community that disruption would be minimised during the redevelopment and that historical slot allocations would be respected.

The airport operator also committed to keeping airline slots unchanged during the winter schedule, addressing a key concern for carriers operating from Mumbai.

Traffic balancing from summer schedule

According to the spokesperson, airlines have committed to supporting the redevelopment project, with traffic balancing scheduled to begin from the summer schedule.

The discussions focused on coordinating the redevelopment with airline operations to limit disruption while enabling the airport to upgrade its ageing infrastructure.

MIAL also assured full support to airlines seeking to shift some or all of their operations to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).

Follow-up meeting on October 28

Both sides agreed to hold a follow-up meeting on October 28. Until then, the airport and airline teams will continue discussions with the respective airline network and slot management teams.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reiterating their commitment to the development of Mumbai Airport and the improvement of its infrastructure.

MIAL said the objective was to ensure that the airport develops to the standards expected by Mumbai and its residents.
