The Bandra Police on Friday, July 10, arrested a 65-year-old man who had been declared a proclaimed offender by a Mumbai sessions court after he allegedly failed to appear for court hearings in an attempted murder case.
The accused, identified as Khalid Jalaluddin Khan (65), a resident of Kherwadi in Bandra (East), was taken into custody following a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to police, Khan is an accused under Sections 141, 144, 147, 148, 149, and 506(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), relating to unlawful assembly, rioting, and criminal intimidation. Officials also highlighted the accused is also wanted in a criminal case in which he had allegedly failed to remain present before the court during the trial.
Police said that after Khan repeatedly failed to attend hearings, the Sessions Court in Mumbai issued a proclamation order directing his re-arrest.
Acting on the court's order, the Bandra Police launched a search for the accused. During the investigation, officers developed intelligence through confidential informants and received information that Khan would be visiting the Shivaji Nagar area in Kherwadi, Bandra (East), on Friday.
Based on the tip-off, a police team laid a trap at around 10:30 am in the Shivaji Nagar locality. Khan was spotted at the location and was apprehended without incident.
The operation was carried out by a team led by Assistant Police Inspector (API) Ajit Tavte, along with Police Head Constable Makandar and Police Constables Ghadge, Kazi, Rakte and More.
Police, while briefing about the incident, said that the accused will be produced before the court, and further legal proceedings are underway.
