A Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus operating on Route No 312/32 from Pratiksha Nagar Depot towards SEEPZ collided with a motorcycle at GTB Nagar Railway Station on Monday evening. Three occupants of the motorcycle fell in the collision and sustained injuries.

According to the accident report issued by the BEST Command and Control Centre (Traffic) on Wednesday, the incident took place around 8.25 pm, when bus number 8150 had halted at the GTB Nagar Railway Station bus stop in the UP direction.

Three injured

The bus had left the stop after passengers boarded the bus. As the BEST bus was about to move, a motorcycle carrying a rider and two pillion passengers came into contact with the right side of the bus.

The three people on the motorcycle fell and suffered injuries. However, no details about them were available.

The bus driver, Shrikrishna Shankar Ambrale, 49, reportedly said that when he attempted to apply the foot brake, the brake pedal got stuck, preventing him from operating it properly. Ambrale added that he immediately used the hand brake to control the bus, during which the vehicle came into contact with the motorcycle.

Bus conductor reported the incident

Following the incident, the motorcycle rider reportedly left the spot. The bus conductor, Nilesh Sunil Adasul, immediately contacted the police control room and informed the authorities.

Police personnel reached the spot and subsequently took the driver to Sion Police Station for inquiry.

No FIR registered

Police officials said that no FIR had been registered at the time and that only a preliminary note had been recorded.

Police also stated that if a complaint or FIR is subsequently lodged by the other party, the BEST staff member concerned would have to appear at the police station as required.

As the driver reported a possible brake pedal defect, the matter was also brought to the attention of the BEST Bus Control Section for a technical inspection. Instructions were subsequently issued not to move the bus until it was thoroughly inspected by a BEST line mechanic.
