The five Metro corridors operational across Mumbai saw a spike in passenger counts on Friday as compared to other days as the commuters flocked to the stations amid the strike called by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST).
The five Metro lines operational in the city and suburbs include the Blue Line 1 from Versova to Ghatkopar; Yellow Line 2 from DN Nagar to Dahisar; Yellow Line 2 from Mandale to Diamond Garden; Aqua Line 3 from Aarey JVLR to Cuffe Parade; and the Red Line 7 from Gundavli to Kashimira.

Aqua Line Metro 3 ridership witnessed a notable increase by 7 pm with the total passenger numbers rising to 1,81,716 on Friday, as compared with 1,51,502 at the same time on the previous day (June 18), an increase of 30,214 commuters.
The MMRDA Metros did not evoke much response, as the total ridership on Yellow Lines 2 and Red Line 7 till Friday 7 pm remained 2,48,453, as compared to 2,35,593 June 18, a rise of just 13,860.
While employees of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) began an indefinite strike on Friday, all staff concerned with electric supply operations reported to work, ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the city. BEST said no complaints were received from across the city about abrupt disruptions in power supply. "All operations staff reported to duty as usual, so we have been equipped to handle power supply complaints. We did not receive any complaints on Friday," a senior BEST official said.
For Friday, the Mumbai Metro One had planned to run 486 trips, including 10 additional trips, to cater to the increased commuter demand arising from the BEST strike, which would carry nearly 60,000 additional commuters by the end of service, another official said.
