A CISF constable posted at the CISF office in Mahim Police Colony lost Rs 95,668 after cyber fraudsters allegedly hacked his mobile phone and accessed his bank account.
According to police, the incident came to light on May 30 when the constable noticed his mobile phone repeatedly resetting on its own. He also found that several applications installed on the device were being automatically deleted.
After some time, the phone restarted and began functioning normally. Believing it to be a technical glitch, the constable reinstalled the PhonePe application. However, upon checking his bank account balance, he discovered that Rs 95,668 had been debited without his knowledge or authorisation. He immediately contacted his bank and requested that his account be blocked to prevent further losses.
Bank officials reportedly informed him that his phone appeared to have been compromised and that cyber fraudsters had gained access to his account, using it to transfer money through online transactions.
The constable then contacted the cyber helpline and subsequently lodged a complaint with Mahim police. Based on his complaint, police have registered an FIR under relevant sections on cheating and the Information Technology Act. Investigators are now working to trace the fraudsters and recover the stolen amount.
