Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr Vipin Sharma on Wednesday experienced the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) as a patient to assess the effectiveness of the digital healthcare platform implemented across civic health facilities.

Dr Sharma visited a maternity home and the PJK Municipal Dispensary in Mulund, where he reviewed various stages of the HMIS system, including patient registration, consultation, treatment, and medicine dispensing. According to the BMC, he examined the system's technical aspects, utility for patients, and overall implementation, and expressed satisfaction with its functioning.

As part of the exercise, Dr Sharma registered himself on the HMIS platform as a patient, citing symptoms of fever and throat irritation for the past two days. He underwent consultation through the system and collected prescribed medicines, thereby experiencing the complete patient journey firsthand.

During the visit, he also interacted with patients and their relatives to understand their experience and feedback regarding the HMIS platform. He was briefed by officials on the implementation and functioning of the system at both facilities.

The civic official reviewed issues related to technical challenges, implementation, medicine stock management, and manpower requirements. He directed the administration to ensure effective long-term implementation of the HMIS system and closely monitor its functioning at every stage.

Dr Sharma also appreciated the cleanliness maintained at the healthcare facilities and commended the work of doctors, healthcare workers, and administrative staff. He interacted with community health workers engaged in door-to-door public health services as part of the visit.

Later in the day, he inspected the proposed repair works at the Murli Deora Municipal Eye Hospital and reviewed ongoing works and hospital management arrangements. He directed officials to convene an immediate review meeting related to the proposed repair project.

BMC chief Ashwini Bhide reviews hospitals in Mumbai's western suburbs, pushes quality healthcare and faster project completion

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide on Wednesday directed civic hospitals and healthcare facilities to further strengthen patient-centric healthcare services and ensure timely, accessible, and quality medical treatment for citizens.

During inspections of healthcare facilities in Mumbai's western suburbs, Bhide emphasised the need for regular reviews of medical manpower, advanced equipment, medicine stocks, sanitation standards, and patient amenities to improve overall service delivery.

She said every patient visiting a civic healthcare facility should receive sensitive, efficient, and citizen-focused care, and directed officials to work in coordination to ensure accountability across the healthcare system.

Bhide visited the newly constructed 490-bed Harilal Bhagwati Municipal General Hospital in Borivali West and reviewed preparations for its operationalisation. The hospital, housed in a modern building comprising a basement, ground floor and eight upper floors, is equipped with super-speciality departments and advanced surgical facilities.

The facility includes departments such as orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, nephrology, burn care, emergency services, and isolation wards.

The BMC in a press release said that the hospital is expected to provide comprehensive and advanced healthcare services under one roof.
