Mumbai commuter alleges TTE kicked ticketless passenger off moving train; Railways deny claim

In a complaint that has drawn attention for both its serious allegations and its unusual sign-off as being from a "Gen Z" citizen, a young Mumbai commuter has accused a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) of kicking a ticketless passenger off a moving train at Masjid Bunder station. The complaint, filed by commuter Sachin Kumar Maurya, states that the incident took place around 9.30 am on July 25.

Maurya told mid-day that he was getting off a local train when he noticed a TTE questioning a passenger for travelling without a ticket. "After the TC came to know that the passenger did not have enough money to pay the prescribed penalty he allegedly kicked the passenger while the train was in motion, causing him to fall onto the railway tracks," he said. Maurya said he reported the incident to the Railway Helpline 1512 at 9.26 am on July 25, 2025.

After verifying details, the railways issued a statement. "The concerned staff has denied the allegations and stated that the suspected passenger, on noticing him, jumped from the opposite side of the compartment onto the railway track, following which he himself alighted from the train. CCTV footage at RPF/Byculla confirms the TC entered the compartment but does not capture or substantiate any act of assault or use of physical force as alleged. The concerned staff deboarded the train within 4-5 seconds and it may not be possible to enter, kick/assault and detrain comfortably in fraction of seconds."
